The purpose and benefit of the D’Amore Engineering / SMD Distortion Detector.
The purpose of this tool is to enable the installer to set the gain of an audio amplifier to match the source unit’s output level, accurately and quickly. It can also be useful for detecting distortion in the audio signal caused by poorly designed or malfunctioning audio equipment. What is included? The Distortion Detector (DD-1)) Protective silicon rubber boot Calibrated Test tone CD Harness This manual Pride of ownership About the design When you pick up the DD-1, know that you are holding a precision piece of equipment. If treated as such it should provide you with many years of reliable service. We have chosen a 9V battery as a power source for a few reasons: They are readily available Isolating the DD1-1 from the vehicle’s electrical system for power, guarantees that it will only measure what it is supposed to measure; the audio signal, not noise in the charging system. We also chose an RCA input connector for a few reasons: It makes it pretty easy to measure the output of a headunit directly, if you choose to do so Should the harness become damaged it is easily replaceable or repairable in the field Specifications Everyone hides these in the back of the book. The Distortion Detector’s circuitry is 100% analog Distortion Detection trigger level > 1.0% Harmonic Distortion Guaranteed operating range of input signal is 1.2Vrms – 125Vrms. SMD DD1 Quality Test Equipment
I haven't gotten to use it yet. But so far I like the build quality of it. Seems to be high quality test equipment. And with it being the SMD name brand. I am not worried about it being inaccurate. SMD products seem to be made very well. But I will say you def are paying for that quality. Bc nothing with that name on it is cheap. But you get what you pay for I guess. And I always try to buy from sky high bc they are always the fastest when it comes to shipping. And shipping is free so it's just a good deal all around. Anyways hello to my fellow bassheads from Lafayette Louisiana way down south. ✌️?

Got this for my husband for Christmas and he just opened it and is very happy. Timing couldn’t be better as he just recently installed custom systems in both our cars. The BONUS is that the instruction manual is ALL IN ENGLISH! I haven’t seen that in over 20 years! Thank you SMD and Sky High!

Best tuning option
I was hesitant to spend the money on the dd-1 but I am so glad I did. With this I was able to get way more out of both my 4 channel and mono amp. Well worth the money

Worked perfect for my amps and dsp. I normally use a o-scope but i like this a lot better and it is very easy to use for DIY people.
